However, this surge highlighted how digital designs and structural inequities restrict digital access and use. Recognizing the need, Human Endeavour initiated the Technology, Access, and Support for Seniors (TASS) project. This innovative and multi-sectoral approach developed simplified technology for seniors and built the capacity of the senior-serving sector. • M7: Older Adult Exercise: The Power of Belief – Beth Yarzab; Canfitpro and Jason Jones; GoodLife: Older adults may be reluctant about fitness due to their perceived lack of ability or fear of failure. Our confidence will build our participant’s confidence! Then we close that belief “gap” by providing evidence of what our participants ARE capable of, one progression at a time. In this session, you’ll learn a programming and coaching framework to enhance your participant’s self-efficacy and overall fitness experience. The pandemic has put a much-needed spotlight on the devastating effects of social isolation. For the first time, many of us experienced the negative impact being cut off from family, friends, and communities had on our health and well-being. Now, as life slowly returns to normal for many of us, the spotlight on social isolation is fading and our most vulnerable seniors are being left behind. Many older adults in our communities are unable to access in-person or online programs. Some are reluctant to meet face-to-face for health reasons. Others can’t because of physical or mental health issues, financial constraints, or other barriers. Seniors’ Centre Without Walls (SCWW) eliminates these barriers by offering free, telephone-based programs that make it safe and easy for seniors to participate in group activities, meet new people, and make meaningful connections – all from the comfort of home. Be ready to get inspired by fellow organizations running their own phone programs, as well as time to network with peers.
